Things You'll Need
- Wire cutters
- Measuring tape
- Hog rings
- Hog ring pliers
- 1- by 1-inch 14-gauge woven wire
- 1- by 1/2-inch 16-gauge woven wire
Instructions
Cut a 30 inch by 36 inch panel out of the 16-gauge woven wire to serve as the floor of the cage. The smaller mesh prevents your rabbit from getting its feet stuck and hurting itself. Cut a 30 inch by 36 inch panel from the 14-gauge woven wire for the top cage panel. Cut an 18 inch by 136 inch piece of the 14-gauge wire for the sides of the cage.
Bend the 136-inch piece of 14-gauge wire to a 90 degree angle 36 inches from the edge of the wire. Measure 30 inches from the first bend and fold the wire 90 degrees again. Measure 36 inches again and bend the wire a third time. Creating the body of the cage out of one piece allows you use fewer hog rings and saves time.
Use the hog ring pliers to apply hog rings to the open edge every 4 inches until the opening is securely closed. Apply hog rings every 4 inches around to connect the top piece and floor to the body of the cage.
Cut a door in one of the 36-inch sides with the wire cutters. The door opening should be around 13 inches wide and no less than 2 inches from the top and bottom of the cage. From an unused piece of 14-gauge wire, cut a square 1 inch bigger around than the doorway hole. Attach it to the bottom of the door hole with hog rings. Bend a piece of wire into a hook shape to make a latch for the door. Attach it with hog rings to the cage over the door hole.
