How to Make Easy Rabbit Toys

Rabbits are playful creatures, and like many pets, love to entertain themselves with either a playmate or toy. You may see your rabbit chewing on its feeder or cage at times; this is because rabbits' front teeth never stop growing and need to be worn down to avoid dental issues. Making your rabbit a few homemade chew toys can be an inexpensive and effective solution. Rabbits are also high-energy creatures who benefit from the exercise of playing with toys.

Instructions

  1. Digging Box

    • 1

Cut the top flaps off of your cardboard box. You could also use a shoe box as your digging box container.

    • 2

Rip or cut your newspaper pieces to the size of your box.

    • 3

Place your newspaper sheets at the bottom of the cardboard box. Put the box into the rabbit's cage. Your furry friend will love digging through the layers of paper to make a comfy bed or to just expel some energy. For some extra fun, try putting a treat at the bottom of the box under the newspaper.

    Rattle Can

    • 4

Pull the tab off your empty soda can.

    • 5

File down any sharp edges on the can.

    • 6

Place a small pebble inside of the can. Rabbits like to bump and roll objects with their noses. The sound of the pebble will entertain your rabbit for hours.

    Paper Roll Chew Toy

    • 7

Remove any excess paper towel material that may still be attached to the roll.

    • 8

Cut up your newspaper into thin strips. Newspaper is safe for your rabbit to chew on in small amounts. You can substitute hay for the newspaper if your rabbit seems to be eating a large amount of paper.

    • 9

Stuff your empty paper towel roll with the paper strips.
