Tubes
-
Paper towel, toilet paper and wrapping paper tubes make fantastic toys for rabbits. By themselves, they are fun chew toys that can be rolled around, grabbed and tossed. But you can also stuff hay into short tubes so that the bunny can eat and play at the same time. For additional fun, hide a carrot in the middle of the tube and fill the ends with hay. Bun Bun will keep working until he finds that carrot, and it will keep him from chewing on something he should not.
Towels
-
Everyone has old towels around the house. Grab one or two and throw them at your rabbit. She will have a ball digging, bunching and smoothing the towels. Play peek-a-boo with your bunny by putting the towel over her head and letting her work her way out with a lot of head shaking and chewing. This is great exercise for your rabbit. The towel will eventually become chewed and resemble Swiss cheese, but that is okay because it was an old towel anyway.
Boxes
-
Rabbits love to climb and be up high, and will be happy just sitting atop a cardboard box. But you can make it a little more exciting by cutting out windows and doors in the boxes, so Bun Bun can hop inside and hide. Take a few boxes, make some hole-punches and use zip-ties to hold them together to create a little castle for your royal rabbit. The rabbit will eventually chew through his home, but it is better than chewing through yours.
Phone Books
-
You may never use them, but the phone company keeps delivering them to your house every year. Rather than throwing it away, give the phone book--or catalog, or old magazines--to your rabbit to chew and dig through. Yes, they will make a mess of shredded paper, but it is easy to sweep up and better than having a chewed up phone cord.
Cups, Caps and More
-
A plastic cup does not seem that exciting, but it is to a bunny. Give your rabbit an empty plastic cup and watch as your bunny puts it on his head, tosses it off and pushes it around on the floor. This is extremely entertaining for rabbits and humans alike. You can also recycle the caps from detergent containers--after thoroughly washing them--by giving them to your bunny to stack and toss. Rabbits also love to play with baby toys such as plastic keys and rattles. Do not give bunnies teething rings, because they can easily be punctured.

DIY Rabbit Toys
Rabbits are very social and curious animals. They love to play as much as dogs or cats do. Rabbits can also become destructive and find the wrong things to chew on if they become bored. It is easy to keep a bunny happy with toys you can make from items found around your home.
