No Birth
-
The nest box is placed in the doe's cage a day or two before she is due to kindle, usually day 28 after being bred. If she doesn't give birth by day 35, remove the nesting box, as it is evident the breeding didn't work.
After Kindling
-
Some breeders will temporarily remove the nest box after a doe finishes giving birth to count the kits and remove the afterbirth or other bloody material.
Three Weeks
-
By the time the bunnies are 3 weeks old, they will begin leaving the nest box; that's when it's time to remove the nesting box.
Summer Heat
-
In the summer, some breeders remove the nest box at two weeks to avoid the bunnies getting overheated in the tight quarters. Place some loose hay in a corner of the cage to give the bunnies a place to cuddle and sleep.
Winter Freeze
-
During the winter, when there's going to be a dangerous drop in temperature, some breeders will remove the nest box to bring it and the newborn kits in the house overnight.

When to Remove a Rabbit Nesting Box
When it come to deciding when to remove the nesting box from a doe's cage, breeders pretty much follow the same time line.
