Things You'll Need
- Woven wire mesh Wire String Metal bar
Instructions
Get 14 gauge woven wire mesh for the cage. For the floor, you want 1 inch by 1/2 inch or smaller mesh. For the rest of the cage, you can use pretty much any size as long as it isn't large enough for the rabbit to squeeze through. You will also need some plain 14 gauge wire with no enamel on it.
Use wire cutters to cut out the floor. You can make the floor in any size and shape you want. The easiest shape to work with is a simple rectangle. Cut off any loose wire ends poking out.
Lay another piece of wire mesh directly on top of the floor and cut it to the same shape. This will be the ceiling for the cage.
Measure the perimeter of the floor. Run a string all the way along the outside of the floor piece. Then, add a few extra inches and cut it.
Make the walls. Cut a rectangle the length of the string and 2 or 3 feet high.
Attach the corner of the wall to the floor. Bend the wire so that it wraps around between the wall and the floor piece in a spiral. Bend the wall around the perimeter of the floor, fastening it with a continuous strand of wire as you go. When you reach the end, twist the two loose ends of wire together. Attach the ceiling in the same way.
Build a door. Cut a piece out of the side of the wall big enough for the rabbit. Attach it at the top with a spiral of wire so that it will swing in and out freely. Thread a small metal bar between the wires in the door and the surrounding cage to close the door. Pull it out to open the door.
