How to Entertain a Rabbit

Fuzzy bunny rabbits are adorable little creatures with curious, fun-loving personalities. Don't mistake them for little animals who like to just sit around in their small cages. They like to be entertained just like the rest of us. Provide a large cage for your pet rabbit to roam around in and give him plenty of safe things to play with to entertain him throughout the day. Or, let him out in a supervised area to romp around and have a good time.

Provide a deep box like a littler box in your bunny's cage and line it with sandpaper. Pour dirt, or preferably sand, in a thin layer. Let your bunny investigate and dig through the sand to get to the sandpaper. Not only will this entertain her, it will wear her nails down and provide an outlet for her natural instinct to dig.

Fill a Kong with treats. Kongs are small rubber toys that can be stuffed with treats like pineapple, chopped carrots or trail mix. There is a small opening at the end of the toy that makes it hard for your pet to get the food out of the Kong. This provides hours of entertainment for him, and for you, as you watch him chase around the toy with his nose stuffed inside, trying to get to the goody you've left him.

Cut thin strips of crocheting yarn or curly ribbon and tie them to your bunny's cage above her head. Let her stretch to get it, swat at it or chew it. Don't make loops that your bunny can get herself or her paws stuck in. Her bones are thin and can be broken easily.

Empty a long thin soda carton and place it your bunny's cage. Place treats or wooden toys inside for him to discover while hiding in the box. The box also serves as something to gnaw on, a common activity for rabbits.

Choose a clear area in your house and set up a mini obstacle course. You can use anything that is taller than your bunny. Let your bunny out of his cage to investigate and after sniffing around a bit, he'll be darting in and out of the objects at lightening speed.
