Instructions
Determine the size. Most rabbits need a pretty large roost to be comfortable, so plan on something at least 3 feet long, one foot deep and 18 inches tall, roughly the size of a 30-gallon fish tank. If you can go bigger, that’s even better. If your rabbit is going to be out of his house a lot, you can get away with one a little smaller.
Gather the supplies. Choose a thin but durable wood, and get two boards of the same size for the floor and roof, four thick slats for the corner supports, four slats for the top frame and four slats for bottom frame. Invest in a wire screen mesh or chicken wire for the outer panels. Get two sturdy hinges, a screwdriver and screws for the hinges, a hammer and nails, and a staple gun.
Build the base. Lay one board flat and position one support in each corner and mark it with a pencil. Cut the front two supports about an inch lower than your back supports so the hinge roof closes at an angle. Place the board on top of the supports and nail each support in place through the bottom of the board. Flip the piece back over and nail the bottom frame in place, flush with the floor. Nail the slats for the top frame to the support boards and to each other.
Attach the hinged roof. With the hinge part opening upwards, secure the hinges in place to the back slat of the frame and to the board you will use as the roof.
Hook up the screen or chicken wire. Cut your screen or chicken wire so it reaches around the perimeter of the house. Use a staple gun to sick the screen or wire in place.
