Instructions
Decide how big you want to build your rabbit cage. Consider the number of rabbits that will live in the cage and make its width at least four times as long as the rabbit. A 4-by-6-foot cage is adequate for one rabbit, while an 8-by-10-foot cage works well for two or three rabbits. Plan your rabbit cage to have a minimum height of 3 feet for one rabbit. Think about giving your cage tiers to save space and accommodate multiple rabbits.
Choose a material for the siding and top of the rabbit enclosure. Thick plastic or wire works well because rabbits have a difficult time chewing through these materials. Construct the sides and top of the rabbit cage.
Cut a piece of 1/4-inch thick plywood with a handsaw so that it measures 1/2 inch larger on all sides than the cage frame. Add 1/2-inch thick molding strips to all sides of the plywood base. Glue the molding strips down to the edges of the plywood with wood glue, or drill wood screws through the molding strips at 4-inch intervals.
Cut a piece of linoleum to equal the plywood base, inside of the molding strips. Spread a generous layer of wood glue down on the plywood. Press the linoleum down onto the plywood. Set heavy books on top of the linoleum while the glue dries for about five hours.
Set the cage frame on top of the wood, inside the molding. Fill the cage with food, water, toys and tiers if desired, for your rabbit or rabbits.
