How to Get a Show Coat for an Angora Rabbit

The long and soft coat an angora rabbit is famous because of angora wool clothing. The angora rabbit's fine, soft coat also enjoys attention at annual conventions and shows, such as the National Angora Rabbit Breeders Club (NARBC) convention each spring. According to the NARBC, show judges give the majority of the points based on the coat's density, texture and length. Angora rabbit fur requires a lot of grooming to avoid matting and webbing, and also to achieve an ideal coat, but the effort can be well worth it for an owner taking her rabbit to show.

Use a high speed blower to blow out the coat, starting with the rabbit's stomach and breast. Concentrate on areas with webbing and matting so as to blow loose. The blowing also removes very fine dander, which looks like fine white powder. If you don't have a high speed grooming blower, use a blow dryer on the cool setting or a shop vac set on the reverse setting.

Use the slicker brush on the wool by holding a handful of hair at a time and brushing a little at a time, pulling out as little fur as possible. Use the brush as needed. An ideal coat is very dense and requires little brushing. Brush carefully around the facial furnishing of English angoras since they have fur on their faces.

Repeat this process daily to prevent matting and webbing of the fur.
