How to Build an Indoor Grass Area for a Rabbit

Many people who own pet rabbits keep their animal friends mostly or completely indoors. Although rabbits tend to enjoy time outside in a grassy area, rabbit owners may not have a yard that is safe for a rabbit to run loose, or perhaps the weather is not suitable for the rabbit to spend time on the lawn. In this situation, you can create an indoor area with grass to give your pet a place to run around and enjoy a healthy, fresh snack.

Things You'll Need

  • Exercise pen (made of wire to prevent chewing)
  • Floor covering, such as paper, plastic, or cardboard.
  • Wheatgrass, grown in a tray

Instructions

    • 1

Lay down a protective covering to shield the floor from any messes your rabbit might make in the grassy area. You can use paper, cardboard, plastic, or another rabbit-safe material.

    • 2

Place an exercise pen over the floor covering. Make sure the area is secure so there is no way for the rabbit to escape, and that the pen is tall enough that your rabbit can't jump over it.

    • 3

Set the tray of grass down inside the pen. This will give your rabbit the feeling of enjoying fresh grass outside.

    • 4

Add your rabbit. Your pet will love to play and eat in his indoor grass area under your supervision.
