What does a baby Kangaroo look like when born?

When a kangaroo is born it is only about the size of a jelly bean. It is hairless, blind and deaf. Its hind legs are not developed and its tail is long and thin. The baby kangaroo is known as a joey. Joeys are born after a gestation period of only about 35 days. This is one of the shortest gestation periods of any mammal. The joey climbs from the birth canal to the mother's pouch, which is located on her belly. The joey attaches to one of the mother's teats and begins to suckle. It will remain in the pouch for the next six to eight months until it is fully developed.
