Are chocolate labs color blind or not?
Yes, chocolate labs (and all dogs) are color blind compared to humans. While humans have three types of cones in the retina that detect different colors (red, green, and blue), dogs only have two types of cones. This means they can see only blue and yellow, and varying combinations of these two. Additionally, dogs' retinas contain a higher proportion of rods, which are more sensitive to dim light and motion, but do not detect color. As a result, the world appears to dogs in shades of blue, yellow, and gray, with limited ability to distinguish between red, orange, and green.
