Do desert jack rabbits have big ears to keep them cool?

Desert jackrabbits do indeed have disproportionately large ears, but their large ears don't serve as air-conditioners but as sophisticated temperature regulators instead. Their extensive network of blood vessels helps the blood release excessive heat from the body rapidly through a process called thermoregulation (cooling down by expanding the ear surface, releasing body heat in the process).
