Things You'll Need
- Small, rat-sized beanbag (bought or homemade)
Instructions
Buy or sew your own beanbag with two square pieces of fabric, thread and a needle. Sew up three sides of the squares and fill with beans or other padding (uncooked rice or even an old sock is fine). Stitch up the fourth side and cut all loose threads.
Microwave the rat's pad for approximately 30 seconds to create a warm place for it to snuggle in winter. Make sure the pad is not too hot when inserting into cage. Let it cool off a few minutes as needed.
Freeze the beanbag to create a cool bed and atmosphere for the rat and his cage. This will provide needed relief on hot summer days. Another alternative is to refrigerate the pad.
Expect that the rat may shred the beanbag; this is its instinct after all. Just be prepared to provide a new one.
