How to Put on a Jogging Harness for Rats

Rats seem to be gaining popularity as pets. While many people have a fear of rodents such as mice and rats, rats actually can make an affectionate and social pet. Rats are even intelligent enough to learn various types of tricks. When rat owners bring their rats out to cuddle and play, many place them in a homemade jogging harness to prevent them from running away, getting lost or getting hurt. A homemade jogging harness is much like a harness commonly used on dogs.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a loop at the end of a pipe cleaner that is approximately 1 cm wide.

    • 2

Bend the other end of the pipe cleaner around into a circle and bring it through the small loop. Pull it through the small loop until you have a loop large enough to fit just over your rat's head.

    • 3

Bend the end of the pipe cleaner around into a circle again until it is long enough to go around your rat's waist.

    • 4

Place the end of the pipe cleaner into the small loop again and bend over approximately 1 cm of the pipe cleaner to make a clasp.

    • 5

Unhook the clasp and loosen the loop you created for your rat's neck. Place it over the rat's head and tighten just enough to keep it from sliding off.

    • 6

Bring the larger loop around the rat's waist and hook the clasp again.
