According to the Davidson County Code of Ordinances, it is unlawful for any person to own, keep, or harbor any potentially dangerous animals, including elephants and hippopotamuses. Potentially dangerous animals are defined as those that have the propensity or capacity to cause serious physical injury or death to a person or other animals.
There are some exceptions to this rule, however. For example, it is legal to own a pet elephant or hippo if the animal is being used for educational purposes or if it is being kept in a zoo or other licensed facility.
If you are caught owning, keeping, or harboring a potentially dangerous animal in Davidson County, Tennessee, you may be subject to a fine or other penalties.
