1. Nine-banded armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus): This is the most common armadillo species found in Texas and throughout the southern United States.
2. Northern (or Texas) three-banded armadillo (Tolypeutes tricinctus): This species is much rarer and is only found in the southernmost tip of Texas, near the Rio Grande River. It's a critically endangered species.
While some sources might mention other species like the Brazilian three-banded armadillo, those are not native to Texas and are usually only found in captivity.
