What animal eats papyrus?

While there are no animals that *exclusively* eat papyrus, several animals are known to browse on it, meaning they eat it as part of a mixed diet:

* African Elephants: Elephants are known to eat papyrus reeds for their water content, especially during the dry season.

* Hippopotamus: Hippopotamuses also graze on papyrus reeds and other aquatic plants.

* Waterbucks: These antelopes will nibble on papyrus reeds along with other vegetation.

* Sitatunga: This swamp-dwelling antelope is also known to eat papyrus reeds.

It's worth noting that papyrus is not a preferred food source for these animals. They usually eat it in times of scarcity or when other, more nutritious plants are unavailable.
