Things You'll Need
- 3 large plastic tubs
- Mite-killing product
- One gallon of clean water
- 1/2 cup bleach
- Enclosure treatment product
- Paper towels or dish rags
Instructions
Place the snake into a large container.
Coat or spray the snake with whichever mite-eliminating product you choose. This shouldn't bother the snake, as long as it is applied gently and according to manufacturer's instructions.
Allow your snake to remain in the tub for 15 to 20 minutes. While the snake is soaking in the product, fill your second container with clean water. The water should be high enough to place the snake in without it being completely submerged.
Move the snake into the second container for 15 to 20 minutes. Mite-removing product will often dehydrate the snake, which is why the snake needs to be soaked in water. While the snake is rehydrating, you can begin to treat the cage.
Mix 1/2 cup of bleach with your remaining water in the third tub. Remove all synthetic items from the snake's cage and place them in the mixture. This will kill any mites or mite eggs that are remaining. Each object should be completely submerged for a few moments before removal.
Use your enclosure treatment product to thoroughly wipe down all parts of the cage. Focus on corners and places that are usually in the dark, as mites tend to lay eggs in those places. Use a damp paper towel or cloth to rid the cage of any lingering scents or ammonias.
Fill the cage back up with the snake's belongings and return the snake to its home.
