How to Keep Meal Worms Alive for Feeding

Meal worms are one of the most common live food items for lizards and turtles. They're small, clean, nutritious and easy to keep. Usually sold in batches by the dozen or more, you'll often not want to feed all of them to your pet at once, in which case there's an easy method to storing them and keeping them alive and healthy for up to a week.

Instructions

  1. Meal Worm Storage

    • 1

Fill a cup about halfway with dry oatmeal. Dry cereal is a good substitute if oatmeal is not available.

    • 2

Place the worms into the cup and shake it around a little so that some of them sink into the oatmeal.

    • 3

Place the cup in the refrigerator, where the worms will go into a cryonic sleep until they're ready to be fed.
