How to Breed Veiled Chameleons

Many people have reptiles as pets. One of the most popular reptile pets is the veiled chameleon. Breeding a chameleon is not very difficult if you know how to do it properly. Here are some steps on how to breed a veiled chameleon.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify the sex of the veiled chameleon. The male veiled chameleon will have spurs on its hind legs and it will also have large spikes on its back and a larger cap on its head. Overall, the male veiled chameleon is larger than the female veiled chameleon.

    • 2

Set up a nesting box. The female veiled chameleons are egg layers and they will need a box in order to breed.

    • 3

Mate the female veiled chameleon with the male chameleon. The best time to do this is at the beginning of the spring once the cold weather has stopped.

    • 4

Give the veiled chameleons less food during their mating time and lower the temperature of their environment. Two chameleons will fight for food. So you want to make the their mating environment as comfortable as possible.

    • 5

Watch the chameleons. During the mating time, if a male is interested in mating with the female, he will produce a sunburst color. It will be a very bright yellow or orange. They can also be a green or blue color. These colors tell the female that he is interested and is looking for a mate. The female will also produce a breeding color, but not as bright as the male. If the female does not have the breeding colors, the male will not show interest in her for mating.
