Instructions
Buy a large fish tank with a screen lid and attached thermometer, heating lamp, food (crickets and fresh green vegetables), a shallow bowl for water and bedding such as cypress mulch or shredded newspaper. Look for bedding made specifically for lizards.
Set up your cage. Put disinfected rocks and branches in the cage to act as furniture for your bearded dragon. Heat one area of the cage to 95-100 degrees F, and another area to 70-80 degrees F. Use bulbs with different wattage if the cage is too hot or cold.
Carefully examine the bearded dragon you wish to buy. Choose a dragon that is alert and looks at you; has clear eyes; is longer than six inches in length; has no open wounds, sores or deformities and does not have any pus or other build up in the eyes, nose or mouth.
Take your bearded dragon home and place it in the cage. Allow your lizard time to adapt to its new surroundings before handling.
