What does the horned puffin eat?
Horned puffins feed primarily on fish, but will occasionally eat zooplankton, squid, insects, and even berries. When foraging, they will dive into the water and use their wings to "fly" through the water. They can reach depths of up to 200 feet and can stay underwater for up to a minute. Horned puffins typically eat small fish, such as herring, sand lance, and capelin. They will also eat larger fish, such as cod and haddock, if they are available.
