Neoaves are a clade comprising those extant bird species whose common ancestor is the most recent common ancestor of all living birds minus paleognaths (tinamous, ostriches, rheas, cassowaries, emus and kiwis) and is the more inclusive of two lineages that branched at the base of the bird radiation.
