How to Make Your Hamster Cage More Colorful

As many rodent cages can lack vibrancy, it is a fun activity to introduce a bit of color. While acquiring colorful items is easy, the materials should be sturdy so that the hamster cannot bite off small pieces to accidentally swallow. Adding the bright items over a period of time will create a fun, colorful atmosphere to house your hamster.

Instructions

  1. Creating a Colorful Atmosphere

    • 1

Purchase a Crittertrail, with interchangeable colored tubes or a colorful hamster cage to begin. These types of barred cages are best for hamsters as they allow air to easily flow into the living area. You may also purchase a fish tank to house larger families of hamsters though much of the color decorating will be limited to the inside.

    • 2

Switch the cage's colored components. Again the Crittertrail can have many colored tubes. Trade dull looking exercise wheels, food dishes and water bottles with colorful ones. You can get similar colors, such as blue and green, or try to include every color of the rainbow.

    • 3

Stop buying brown or gray bedding and instead, choose bedding that is purple, pink, blue or yellow. Some bedding comes in a confetti-style with multiple colors included, though you can purchase and mix the colors on your own.

    • 4

Make sure your hamster has plenty of colorful toys on hand. Exercise balls are available in many different colors and allow the hamster to exercise outside of the cage. Place colorful chew toys and snacks throughout the cage instead of anything brown or natural-colored.
