How to Clean a Critter Ball

Critter balls or run-abouts -- plastic balls made to contain small pets such as hedgehogs, mice, hamsters and gerbils -- allow your pets to get lots of exercise outside their cage. Though using a critter ball benefits animal health and prevents boredom, the toy can get messy after repeated use or if your pet relieves itself inside it. When you clean a critter ball, use natural products so you won't harm your small pet.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a sink with warm, soapy water. Use a mild, organic soap.

    • 2

Place the open critter ball into the bath and scrub it inside and out with a soft sponge. Use a handled sponge brush if you can't fit your hand inside the ball.

    • 3

Rinse the critter ball. If it still has an odor, make a paste of baking soda and water and coat the insides of the ball with the mixture. Allow the mixture to sit for 10 minutes, then rinse the ball again.
