What do snow petrels eat?

Snow petrels mainly feed on small planktonic crustaceans, particularly krill and copepods. During the breeding season in Antarctica, snow petrels primarily consume krill, including Antarctic krill (Euphausia superba) and other species such as Thysanoessa macrura and Euphausia crystallorophias. They also supplement their diet with other zooplankton, including amphipods, isopods, and salps, as well as fish eggs and small fish during the non-breeding season. Snow petrels forage by flying low over the ocean surface and skillfully picking up prey items from the water using their beaks.
