What mammal looks like a skunk?

While there are a few animals that share some physical similarities with skunks, there's only one mammal that is commonly mistaken for one:

* The Mongoose : Some species of mongoose, like the banded mongoose, have a black and white striped pattern on their bodies that resembles a skunk. However, they are much smaller than skunks, have longer legs, and have a more slender build. They also don't have the same pungent smell as skunks.

It's important to note that mongeese are not found in North America, where skunks are common.

Here are some other animals that might be mistaken for a skunk depending on their specific features, but are not true lookalikes:

* Opossums: Opossums have a white face and a white stripe down their back, which can look similar to a skunk's white stripes, but their overall body shape is different.

* Weasels: Some weasels, like the long-tailed weasel, can have a white underside, but their overall coloration and size are different from skunks.

If you see a black and white striped animal, it's best to observe its behavior and size to determine if it's a skunk or a different animal.
