Do groundhogs live in central Texas?

Groundhogs, also known as woodchucks, are primarily found in the eastern and central regions of North America. Their range includes parts of the United States, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, and some states in the Midwest and Southeast. However, they are not typically found in the central part of Texas.

A similar ground squirrel species that you may find in central Texas is the Texas ground squirrel (Urocitellus texensis). This squirrel is found in open grasslands, prairies, and agricultural areas of central and western Texas. They resemble woodchucks in some aspects, but are smaller in size and have different behaviors and habitat preferences.
