Can giant African land snails have bark chipping as a substate?

Giant African Land Snails (GALS) should not have bark chipping as a substrate. Bark chipping is not suitable for them because it can be dusty, which can irritate their respiratory systems, and it can be difficult for them to move around on. Additionally, bark chipping can harbor mites and other pests that can be harmful to snails.

Instead, it is best to use a substrate that is specifically designed for GALS. This type of substrate will be made from a mixture of materials such as coconut fiber, peat moss, and worm castings. This type of substrate will provide the snails with a more natural and comfortable environment in which to live, and will also help to prevent the growth of mites and other pests.
