How to Feed Hatchling Corn Snakes

Usually, hearing the word "pet' will call to mind images of a four-legged, furry creature meeting you at the door after a long day at work. But for some people, the word can also bring to mind animals of a different nature, such as reptiles. Snakes, though often vilified, can make a great alternative to the traditional pet choice. Corn snakes are thought to be one of the best types of snakes to own as a pet as they are usually docile and amiable to handling. Feeding a hatchling corn snake is similar to feeding a fully grown Corn snake.

Instructions

  1. Feeding a hatchling Corn Snake

    • 1

Remove the hatchling snake from its cage and place it in the small plastic container. This will help the new snake focus on its prey.

    • 2

Place a pinkie mouse in the container with the snake. The mouse should not be larger than one and a half the girth of the snake's mid-section.

    • 3

Wait for the snake to strike. Corn snakes are carnivores, so they should only be fed meat. Most snakes will not mind eating pre-killed mice, so buying frozen mice and then thawing them before feeding time is ok.

    • 4

Feed the hatchling snake every 5 to 7 days. Once the snake is an adult, it can be fed every 10 to 14 days.
