Things You'll Need
- 1 or 2 mice (live or killed)
- Tongs
Instructions
Clear your ball python's tank of all objects. This includes artificial trees, water bottles, or anything else you may have added as an environmental stimulus. This is to prevent your snake from hurting itself while attacking its prey. Snakes lunge and wrap to kill, and a missed lunge into a plastic tree could injure your pet.
Add a mouse to the tank. It is recommended to feed your ball python 1 to 2 mice per week, but make sure to put only one mouse in the cage at a time. Use mice that are no bigger than the width of the snake to prevent regurgitation. It is suggested to use pre-killed mice as opposed to live mice when feeding your snake. This is because mice often get defensive and might attack a dormant snake.
Drop a live mouse, if you choose to use one, into the opposite side of the tank from the snake. Replace the cover on the tank so that the mouse or snake cannot escape. Keep a close eye on the ball python and mouse's movements to make sure the mouse does not bite and injure your snake.
Replace objects removed from the cage. It is important that your snake feels comfortable while digesting its prey. In the wild, ball pythons slow down while digesting food, so replace all artificial trees and environmental simulators so that your snake feels comfortable and safe.
