How to Use Spotlights in Snake Cages

If you have snakes as pets, then you know how important it is when you are setting up snake cages. You have to make sure that your snake has plenty of space and a heat source. Since snakes are cold-blooded, they have to have some place in their cages where they can warm up. Temperature is often controlled by high intensity, or spot, lights. Some people also use spotlights to show off their snake cages when displaying them for people to view and enjoy their pet snake.

Decide how you will attach your spotlights to your snake cages. Some cages have a place for a light bulb to be screwed in at the top of the cage. Other cages may need a little work with a drill and screwdriver to attach the lights to them. You can also consider using stationary spotlights that are taller than the cages and that sit next to the cages to shine down on them.

Buy fluorescent light bulbs, 60-watt light bulbs or incandescent bulbs, depending on your snake cage plans. The best option for lighting the snake cages and heating them properly for your pets is using full-spectrum fluorescent bulbs.

Ask yourself what is your purpose for using spotlights. Are you using them for a heat source? Are you using them to better display your snake's cage? Or maybe you are using spotlights for both reasons? If you are not using them as a heat source, make sure that you have another heat source for your pet snake. You also want to make sure that the bulbs you bought are never too hot and burning the snake cages. Remember that the higher the wattage, the more heat the bulb will give off.

Turn off the spotlights at night. If you are using them as a heat source, make sure that your pet snake has another way to stay warm at night.
