Render the territory inhospitable. Most of the snakes that sneak into your garden are actually people-shy and will hide behind trashcans and near flowerpots and large rocks. Clear some of the clutter, and you may see the snake as it moves around.

Isolate your trash and remove the bird feeder, or else you will attract the mice, insects and the snake. Dry any unnecessary ground-level water sources and remove wood pieces from the premises.

    • 3

Use your lawn mower to trim your tall grass and weeds. Downsize your garden. Shrubbery, tall grass, thickly grown gardens and mulch are among the favorites of your local snake population. Keep your garden well groomed, healthy and thin.

Protect your home. Any holes or open vents that can be reached from the garden are very welcoming for a snake looking for more places to hide. Do not leave your door open. Fill any holes with plywood or other necessary items as you see fit.

Build a wire cage. You can create one around your entire garden. If there are specific parts of your garden that are indispensable but bound to attract snakes, fence them off as well. Run wire mesh with thin holes around the length of your garden. Cut the mesh with wire cutters and stick the bottoms of the mesh in the ground along the perimeter of your garden.
