How to Keep a Snake Aquarium Warm

Cold-blooded, reptilian snakes thrive in consistently warm areas, which makes a heated enclosure an ideal habitat. Since snakes take on the temperature of their environment, they are well off in a warm habitat that does not fall more than a few degrees below optimum. It is necessary to provide your snake with a primary source of heat, which keeps the entire aquarium warm, and a secondary source of heat that creates more heat in a small area of the enclosure. Keep the temperature of your snake aquarium toasty to ensure your snake will be comfortable and healthy.

Instructions

    • 1

Put a thermostat in the snake aquarium. Monitor the thermostat to confirm the aquarium stays between 80 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 2
Incandescent lights will warm the enclosure.

Install incandescent lights over the aquarium, which are primary heating sources. Turn the incandescent lights off at night.

    • 3

Put a heating pad underneath the enclosure. Turn the heating pad on at night.

    • 4
The basking area will be the warmest part of the aquarium.

Install a 75-watt incandescent light bulb, which has a securely mounted ceramic base, in the basking area of the aquarium. Confirm that the bulb covers only 25 to 30 percent of the aquarium and keep it on all the time.
