Why is nose and lips yellow?

The yellowing of the nose and lips is a condition known as jaundice, which is caused by a buildup of bilirubin, a yellow pigment, in the body. Bilirubin is formed when red blood cells are broken down. Normally, the liver removes bilirubin from the bloodstream and excretes it in the bile, a fluid that helps to digest fats. However, if the liver is damaged or unable to function properly, bilirubin can accumulate in the blood, leading to jaundice.

Jaundice can be a symptom of a variety of underlying medical conditions, including:

- Liver disease, such as hepatitis or cirrhosis

- Gallbladder disease, such as gallstones or bile duct obstruction

- Pancreatic cancer

- Certain medications, such as antibiotics or birth control pills

- Genetic conditions, such as Gilbert's syndrome or Crigler-Najjar syndrome

In some cases, jaundice can also be a sign of a more serious condition, such as liver failure or sepsis. If you are experiencing yellowing of the nose and lips, it is important to see a doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
