Here's why:
* They are primarily subterranean: Moles spend most of their lives underground in tunnels they create.
* Surface activity is rare: They only come to the surface to:
* Find new food sources: Mostly earthworms and insects.
* Establish new tunnels: They may burrow upwards and outwards to create new tunnel systems.
* Escape predators: If they feel threatened, they may come out to find an escape route.
Moles are mostly active at night and dusk, so it's less likely you'll see them above ground. If you do see one, it's likely due to one of the reasons above.
