How to Feed Tarantula Spiderlings

Tarantula spiderlings require regular feedings in captivity to facilitate their rapid growth rate. Young tarantulas, like adults, are opportunistic predators in the wild and feed on a wide range of insects. In captivity, most species feed on juvenile crickets -- commonly called pinheads -- that are readily available from pet stores. Properly feeding your pinhead crickets in order to increase their nutritional content ensures that your spiderling receives high-quality food.

Instructions

    • 1

Transfer pinhead crickets from their plastic bag to a small plastic container. A clear plastic food container with a few small holes works well for holding pinhead crickets.

    • 2

Place an orange slice and a pinch of tropical fish flakes in the container with the pinhead crickets. Pinheads will drink the vitamin-rich liquid from the orange and feed on the fish flakes that also contain vitamins and minerals. Allow the crickets to feed for several days before feeding them to your tarantula spiderling.

    • 3

Feed your tarantula spiderling two to five pinhead crickets three times each week.

    • 4

Remove any uneaten crickets from your tarantula cage after 24 hours to prevent the crickets from causing stress or physical injury to your tarantula spiderling.
