Blue spotted stingrays use their specialized sensory organs, called ampullae of Lorenzini, to detect the electrical fields produced by their prey buried in the sand or mud. They use their powerful jaws and sharp teeth to crush the shells of molluscs and crustaceans, and to capture and consume their prey whole.
