Why do squirrels have ears?

Squirrels have ears for the same reason most other mammals do: to hear!

Their ears are incredibly sensitive, and help them:

* Detect predators: Squirrels can hear sounds that humans can't, like the rustling of leaves or the faintest footstep of a predator.

* Locate food: They can hear the sounds of nuts falling from trees or the movement of insects in the undergrowth.

* Communicate with other squirrels: Squirrels use a variety of vocalizations, including chirps, squeaks, and chatter, to communicate with each other.

Their large, movable ears allow them to pinpoint the direction of sounds and adjust their hearing based on what they need to listen for.
