What eats Grey Squirrels?

Grey squirrels are relatively high on the food chain, but they do have predators:

Natural Predators:

* Hawks and Owls: Red-tailed hawks, Cooper's hawks, and Great Horned owls are known to prey on squirrels.

* Snakes: Rattlesnakes and other snakes can catch and eat squirrels, especially young ones.

* Coyotes and Foxes: These canines will prey on squirrels, especially when other food sources are scarce.

* Bobcats and Lynx: These wild cats are capable of catching and eating squirrels.

* Domestic Cats: Feral and even some pet cats will hunt squirrels.

* Raccoons: Though omnivorous, raccoons will eat squirrels when the opportunity arises.

* Weasels and Martens: These small, agile predators can hunt and kill squirrels.

* Large Birds of Prey: Eagles and other large birds can occasionally prey on squirrels.

Other Threats:

* Humans: Hunting and habitat loss are major threats to squirrel populations.

* Diseases: Squirrels are susceptible to various diseases, which can affect their survival.

It's important to note that the specific predators of grey squirrels vary depending on the location and the availability of other prey.
