How to Bond With Squirrels

If you want to bond with squirrels, you'll first need to demonstrate that you aren't a threat and that you have a desirable food supply. Time, patience, and a simple method will enable you to bond with squirrels. Make sure they have access to a safe zone with no predators; then take steps to slowly establish a comfort zone in which the squirrels will approach you. Before long you will have them eating out of your hand.

Instructions

Pick a spot, in the park or your backyard, close to the squirrels' area; set out a low seat to sit on. If you choose your yard, pick a spot visible from inside your home, so you can see when the squirrels are around.

    • 2

Put out food every day at the same time at your designated spot. Keep in mind that squirrels rise and retire early and only are active during the daytime.

    • 3

Join the squirrels at the feeding area after they become accustomed to receiving food there. Sit quietly and speak to them in a low voice daily for about two weeks during feeding times.

    • 4

Began to move around a bit so the squirrels will see that you aren't attempting to harm them; continue for about two weeks. You probably will begin to notice distinctions between the squirrels, so feel free to give them names.

    • 5

Hold nuts in your opened palm one day, instead of putting them on the ground in the usual spot. The squirrels should, by now, trust you enough to come to you. Extend your palm flat so the squirrels can clearly see; hold still.

    • 6

Visit the feeding spot daily if possible and continue to feed the squirrels in order to keep them acclimated to you. Continue to feed them by hand; gradually, you should be able to pet them.
