From where did the puma originate?

The puma, also known as the cougar, mountain lion, or panther, originated in North America.

While they are now found throughout the Americas, from Canada to the southern tip of South America, their evolutionary history points to North America as their place of origin.

Fossil evidence suggests that the puma lineage emerged in North America around 2.5 million years ago. Over time, they spread south through the Americas, eventually reaching the tip of South America.
