Where is your spit gland?

Humans do not have a single spit gland. Instead, we have three major pairs of salivary glands and numerous minor salivary glands. The three main pairs of salivary glands are:

1. Parotid glands: These are located on either side of the face, just below and in front of the ears. They produce saliva that is watery and high in protein.

2. Submandibular glands: These are located under the lower jaw, on either side of the midline. They produce saliva that is thicker and more viscous than parotid saliva.

3. Sublingual glands: These are located under the tongue, on either side of the midline. They produce saliva that is thin and watery.

The minor salivary glands are located throughout the oral cavity, including the lips, cheeks, palate, and tongue. They produce saliva that helps keep the mouth moist and lubricated.
