Why is your cockatiel eyes closed?

Cockatiels, like many birds, have a third eyelid called the nictitating membrane. This membrane helps to keep the bird's eyes moist and protected. Cockatiels will often close their eyes or partially close them to use this nictitating membrane to clean or moisten their eyes.

Additionally, cockatiels may close their eyes for a variety of other reasons, including:

- Sleeping: Cockatiels typically sleep with their eyes closed.

- Relaxing: Cockatiels may close their eyes when they are relaxed or content.

- Feeling content: Cockatiels might close their eyes when they are being petted or cuddled.

- Feeling sick: Cockatiels may close their eyes if they are feeling sick or unwell.

- In the dark: Cockatiels will close their eyes when it is dark.
