The prehensile-tailed porcupine comes in a variety of color variations — blacks, yellows, browns, tans, and reds — and a few even sport spots or stripes. Prehensile-tailed porcupines may have a single color, or a mixture of two colors.

The North American porcupine primarily ranges from brown to black in color, but they can also sometimes be white, cream, or even a yellowish color. Some porcupines also have a variation of dark brown stripes on their backs.
