How to Fix a Cracked Box Turtle Egg

Boxed turtle eggs will occasionally exhibit tiny cracks. Frequently caused due to improper incubation techniques, these minor cracks can often be fixed. If you have not been incubating your turtle's eggs, this is likely the reason they have broken, so be sure to incubate the eggs after you fix them.

Instructions

Gently pick up the egg, being careful not to turn or shake it. Locate the crack and pinch the crack together. The sides of the crack should be as close together as you can get them without wrinkling or breaking the rest of the egg.

Tape over the crack with clear tape. Make sure the area surrounding the crack is completely dry before applying the tape.

    • 3

Check the humidity levels in your incubator. Box turtle eggs are most likely to crack when humidity is too low. Humidity should be about 80 degrees. Consider misting the eggs with a water mister several times each day to maintain proper moisture.

Remove the tape when the baby turtle begins trying to peck out of the egg. Check the eggs several times daily in order to remove the tape when the babies begin to hatch.
