Things You'll Need
- Vinegar
- Fluidized bed filter and pump
Instructions
Change the turtle's water every second day until the algae significantly decrease. Scrub the tank clean using vinegar, a safe disinfectant. When the algae are under control, change the tank water once per week.
Install a fluidized bed filter and pump to keep water clean between regular water changes. The fluidized bed filter provides biological filtration, removing turtle waste to keep water clear.
Keep the turtle in a 25-to-50-gallon tank. A larger tank will mean cleaner water over time.
Ask a qualified pet professional at a pet store about water additives formulated specifically for turtle tanks. Water additives formulated for fish tanks are not safe for turtles.
