Instructions

    • 1

Provide the turtles with a large pond. Sliders are large turtles that can grow to 8 inches in length. You will need to provide at least 90 gallons of water per turtle.

    • 2

Install a highly efficient filter. Slider turtles eat and defecate in the water, so keeping the pond clean is important to maintaining their health.

    • 3

Install a water heater if you live in colder climates. Water temperatures should be maintained at 72 to 76 degrees F.

    • 4

Create an area on land for basking. The turtle basking area should reach at least 90 degrees F. Depending on your climate, you may need to provide a heat lamp for basking.

    • 5

Provide healthy foods. Common Sliders are omnivores as adults. Healthy foods for an adult slider include commercial turtle food, salad and occasionally, fish or insects.

    • 6

Provide medical care. As with any other pet, slider turtles need regular vet care to stay healthy and live a long life.
