Instructions
Purchase an aquarium tank that has at least 10 gallons capacity. A larger tank is preferable as it is fundamental to ensure there is enough room for your turtle to grow and stay healthy.
Make an area in the aquarium for your turtle to stay dry and bask when needed. You can do this by building a small hill with aquarium gravel or make a device built with wood that is safe for the turtle.
Provide sufficient water in the wet area for turtle to swim in. Water should cover the top of the turtle shell to allow it to move around comfortably.
Set the turtle aquarium by the window or somewhere that provides lighting for the turtle. The ideal temperature should be 80 degrees Fahrenheit for the day and 70 degrees Fahrenheit at night. Sufficient light also provides Vitamin D for its health.
Set up a UV lamp for the turtle to bask in the heat when needed. This UV treatment should be done twice a week, with 15 minutes duration each time.
Provide a diet that is appropriate for the turtle. Check this at the pet store you bought it from. Most turtle are carnivores and a diet of snails, earthworms and small fish along with some lettuce are ideal for them. You can also purchase turtle pellets at the pet store.
Avoid over handling the turtle by removing them off their habitat constantly as this can drastically change their temperature and affect their immune system.
Clean the tank every 4 or 5 days to maintain a healthy environment for the turtle.
